2. Information We Collect
worldnews.fyi is designed to be privacy-respecting. We collect minimal data:
- Cookie consent records: an anonymous identifier (UUID), your consent choices (analytics on/off, advertising on/off), a hashed IP address (SHA256 — not the raw IP), and a timestamp. No personally identifiable information is stored.
Legal basis: compliance with a legal obligation (GDPR Art. 7). - Newsletter subscribers: email address and preferred language edition, collected only upon explicit opt-in with double confirmation (double opt-in).
Legal basis: consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). - Analytics: anonymous usage data via Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and Microsoft Clarity, collected only after you give analytics consent.

3. Cookies & Consent
We use a built-in consent banner that appears on your first visit. You can choose between three options:
- Accept all: enables analytics (GA4, Clarity) and advertising (AdSense).
- Essential only: only storage strictly necessary for the site to function (theme preference). No tracking, no ads.
- Manage: granular toggle for analytics and advertising separately.
Your preference is stored in your browser's local storage and can be changed at any time by clearing your browser storage or by clicking "Manage cookies" in the site footer. No tracking scripts are loaded before you give consent.
4. Analytics & Advertising
If you consent to analytics, we load Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity via Google Tag Manager. These services collect anonymised data about how you interact with the site. You may opt out via the Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on.
If you consent to advertising, we may display ads via Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your interests. You can manage personalised advertising at Google Ad Settings.
5. Newsletter
If you subscribe to our newsletter, we store your email address and language preference. We use Resend as our email service provider. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in each email. We do not sell or share your email address with third parties.
6. International Data Transfers
Some of our third-party service providers are based outside the European Economic Area (EEA), primarily in the United States. In such cases, data transfers are carried out under appropriate safeguards, including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission or equivalent mechanisms:

No user personal data is sent to the GDELT Project API — it is a read-only public data source used for editorial purposes only.
7. Data Retention
- Consent records: retained for 3 years for GDPR compliance purposes.
- Newsletter data: retained until you unsubscribe.
- Analytics data: retained per Google Analytics default (14 months).
- Server logs: deleted after 30 days.
8. Your Rights (GDPR)
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), if you are located in the European Economic Area you have the following rights:
- Right of access: request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification: request correction of inaccurate data.
- Right to erasure: request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
- Right to restriction: request that we limit processing of your data.
- Right to data portability: receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Right to object: object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Right to withdraw consent: withdraw analytics or advertising consent at any time without affecting prior processing.

9. Supervisory Authority
