Google Chrome rolled out Skills on Tuesday — a feature that transforms frequently used AI prompts into reusable one-click tools. Users can now save any Gemini conversation prompt and deploy it instantly across multiple browser tabs without retyping commands.

The feature addresses a common frustration among AI users who find themselves crafting similar prompts repeatedly. Skills integrates directly with Chrome's Ask Gemini sidebar, where users chat with the AI about web page content and reference information across open tabs.

To activate a saved Skill, users type a forward slash or click the plus button in their Gemini chat window, then select from their prompt library. The system then asks which browser tabs to include in the task — a capability that previously required copying and pasting the same prompt across multiple pages.

Google showcased several practical applications developed by early testers. One Skill automatically calculates protein macros for any recipe found online. Another creates side-by-side product comparisons from specifications displayed across different tabs. A third scans lengthy documents to surface key details without manual review.

The company launched Skills with a curated library of pre-built prompts covering common tasks. These include gift recommendation tools that match budgets with recipient interests, ingredient checkers for food products, and meal planning assistants. Users can save these templates to their personal collections and modify them as needed.
